Why We Created the Foodie’s Choice Awards
At Joyous, our mission is to help local, independent restaurants thrive and to that end, we’ve created the Foodie’s Choice Awards.
The purpose of the awards includes:
- Providing a way for restaurants to engage their biggest fans in the promotion of their restaurants.
- Providing a way for local, independent restaurants to gain a more level playing field with franchises and corporate restaurant chains that have big marketing budgets.
- To honor the hard work that folks at our favorite local, independent restaurants do to bring us amazing food every single day.
- To create a greater sense of community within the independent restaurant scene.
We created the 2021 awards as a pilot—to start small and learn the details of how to run a local awards program and to iron out as many of the kinks as possible before we launch wider in 2022. We launched in our backyard: the Beaverton/Hillsboro area in order to start with a good number of restaurants and to jumpstart the program by encouraging our 10,000+ customers (based mostly in Portland’s westside and the Beaverton/Hillsboro area) to participate.
We’ve been thrilled with the results.
Not only did folks nominate over a dozen local, independent restaurants for the awards (including several not part of our platform… yet!), but even more have been voting now that voting has opened!
